What a busy term we have had in 3rd and 4th Class.
In Maths, we have explored Time, Weight, Capacity, Length, Perimeter, Area, Division, the maths of football, Mobius strips and lots more. In English, we’ve covered such topics as Chinese New Year, festivals around the world, Spring Feasts, the life of Christopher Reeve, recipes and witches’ potions. In Gaeilge, we’ve looked at An Sorcas, Siopaidóireacht, An Teilifís, Caitheamh Aimsire and An Aimsir.
The class has learned several songs this term, such as Caravan of Love by The Housemartins; Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ from the musical Oklahoma! and class favourite I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys. The boys have been enjoying their weekly sessions with Jen from Music Generation, doing everything from percussion circles to call-and-response games and learning to play chords on the ukulele.
We had two of our Try Five+ workshops with Q, in which we learned about habitats and electrical circuits and made a terrarium and a star lamp. Great fun altogether! We have also just finished our 10-week programme of maths games with Time to Count, culminating in a visit to the Business in the Community offices in Phibsborough.
On the sporting front, we’ve been doing basketball lessons, keeping up our Gaelic Football practice at Naomh Fionnbarra, doing boxing training with Paul and trying our best with the school Lap Challenge each day. Some of our students have been playing on the school football team, which is unbeaten so far this season.
We have covered lots of topics this term, including Superheroes, the Celts, the Ancient Egyptians, Birds of Ireland and the Normans. The boys also completed a Happy Box project, where they designed and decorated “happy boxes” to take home and filled them with calming, comforting and fun items. They also practised following step-by-step guides to draw tricky subjects such as native Irish birds, Norman castles and imaginary creatures. We also completed a beginners’ course in Chess, and everyone now knows the rules, moves and basic strategies of the game.
Everyone is looking forward to the Easter Holidays. We hope the boys have a lovely break. See you in Term Three.
